Yes!
Remember when I said there were fewer and fewer YA vamp books being sold? That the last one was sold in May?

Yeah, well, looks like the trend is picking back up, at least for the time being. There were two vamp books reported in Publishers Marketplace today, both YA. Also there was another paranormal one reported too, about a girl possessed by spirits.

It's nice to see paranormal/supernatural stuff still selling. But hey! I have an urban fantasy!! Over here! Represent me dear agent and lets sell this thing together!!

Imagine
Has anyone noticed that the last YA vampire book sold according to Publishers Marketplace was on May 18th 2006?

I knew it was coming, the market is now saturated with vamp books. I'm sad to see it because I love vampires, though I have to admit, I have grown out of them lately and moved on to other things in the paranormal world. But I will always have a special place for vamps!!

I'm now glad I didn't spend a whole lotta time writing a vamp book, trying to fit into the trend. The first book I ever wrote was a vamp book. Maybe someday I'll write one that will actually get published but I'm pretty darn sure it won't be anytime soon.

I wonder what the next trends will be...I think we'll see more dark and evil paranormal YAs. Lots of realistic stuff. And summer camp/camp counselor fiction will take the place of boarding school fiction. And edgy (as in Gossip Girls) is going to die.

And I will be so so upset if the YA market as a whole becomes saturated to the point that no one will be able to sell a thing, as PBs were in the last couple of years. Cause I don't think I'd be able to take it.

In case you don't read Meg Cabot's blog, I copied this from her last entry:

HarperCollins editors and Avon Romance authors invite you to join thousands of fans online to collectively create an original e-book — one chapter at a time.

Log on now through October 27th for a unique online writing event where Avon Romance authors, editors, and readers team up to create an original e-book novella. Each week, you, the fans, will submit your own chapters based on a predetermined story line.

Then fans and authors will vote for their favorite chapter. The one with the highest vote total will win the week.

Yes. It will be like the American Idol of writing. Only without Simon Cowell.

The event will continue for six weeks and in the end the novella will be published as an e-book. Throughout the event, prizes will be awarded, including grand prizes of an in-person session with an Avon editor and a $5,000 development deal with Fox TV!

See you online at AvonFanLit.com

I'm doing this. I signed up to receive word of the contest start. How much fun! I remember subbing to a similiar contest at Harlequin, I think it was. I really enjoyed it, even if I didn't win. :) Course, that was a good four years ago and I know I've grown since then. Hmm...do I possibly have a shot this time? I hope so!

On Publishers Marketplace today:

Cecily van Ziegesar's GOSSIP GIRL series, to the CW, which is teaming with The O.C. creator-executive producer Josh Schwartz for a television drama series, by Alloy Entertainment. Schwartz and O.C. executive producer Stephanie Savage are in negotiations to produce alongside Alloy's Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy.

As if I need more things to add to my TV schedule! I'd totally check this out to see how it looked. I haven't read the books, but TV and books are very different for me. I have read Cecily's IT GIRL books and I love those. Why couldn't they make an IT GIRL TV show?
