I read Bloom (Elizabeth Scott) yesterday and really loved it. Maybe I loved it so much because it reminded me of Dessen's The Truth About Forever. BUT...the similarities also pulled me out of the story a few times. Like that Lauren's boyfriend is perfect in every way. That her father works in land development and has a hard time communicating with Lauren at all. Or that her one parent is never home and her other parent (Mom) is out of the picture.

Despite the similarities that stood out to me, the book was awesome. I rarely read a book in a day or two anymore, but I stopped pretty much everything to read this book. I loved Evan, loved the way Elizabeth wrote !!!!!!SPOILER!!!! that first kiss scene between Evan and Lauren. I felt like I was there, I felt like I could see and feel Evan through Lauren. The writing through the entire book was wonderful, smooth and easy to read, easy to get inside Lauren's head.  

Some of Lauren's inner monologue was repetitive and the ending was a bit too easy, but if I had a rating system, like if I used bat-shaped Peeps to rate how much I loved a book because I reallyreallyreally love the bat peeps, then I'd give Bloom 4 Bat Peeps out of 5.

I did NOTHING today. I watched a movie (The Knockaround Guys) and read a book.

I can count on one hand the number of books I've read start to finish in the last six months. For some reason, since I've been writing seriously, I haven't been able to read really anything. Not for a lack of trying though. I've started and stopped probably fifty books. I have them all lined up on my bookshelf, little purple and pink sticky notes hanging from the pages where I left off. Some of them I'll go back to, I'm sure. But some of them I won't and I should just remove the sticky notes and stop torturing myself. I'm NEVER GOING TO READ THEM.

What I have read start to finish: Tithe, New Moon and Just Listen. And today I read Megan Meade's Guide to the McGowan Boys.

The book pulled me right in and I fell for the McGowan Boys. Okay, so some of them were a bit stereotypical. Jock, hottie Evan, the McGowan boy that Megan falls for. Rebel Sean who rides a motorcycle and plays in a band and who barely utters a full sentence. The plot was also pretty common, but for some reason I just loved this book. Maybe it's because I'm nuts when it comes to hot guys and there was no shortage in this book. Am I that lame? Yes I am.

But the point was, I enjoyed myself tonight and I wish I could read a whole book start to finish every single day. I wish someone would pay me to read books for pleasure. That would be nice. But while I enjoyed myself today, I am now feeling entirely too guilty for not answering emails...oh and...working on Possession! I should have been working on Possession, damnit! I could open the file now and get started on it, but Mr. Jen will be home in twenty minutes and he'll want to talk and ask how my day was.

Ugh...stupid good book. Jeeze.
