27th-Mar-2007 04:29 pm - Teaser Tuesday
umbrella
[info]ravelda's teasers of Gen Hex got me thinking the other night how fun it would be for all of us to post teasers of our WIPs. And then [info]fabulousfrock posted a teaser, which I loved reading (!) and I mentioned having a special teasers day, like Teasers Tuesday. [info]fabulousfrocksaid she was all for it.

So we're electing Tuesdays as the official teaser day when all of you children's writer's out there should post teasers of your WIPs. IF you want to, of course. I know some people hate to share what they're working on until it's absolutely done.

And I think it's pretty much been decided that no one is asking for critique. Simply this is a way to share our work, to find/give encouragement and motivation to move on in the long and sometimes torturous process of writing a new book.

So, I encourage you, LJ friends, join us in Teaser Tuesday! Or hey, if you don't have anything you'd like to share, write something by the seat of your pants! A small scene you've been running through your head. Or explore a character you can't stop thinking about. You never know, it might lead to a whole book!

20th-Mar-2007 09:52 am - Embers
Jensen-Dark
I used my time today on the elliptical to think about Embers. The biggest reason why I lost interest in that book was because one of the main characters, Allie, is "someone special". As in, she's super powerful and it's sort of a "join us or suffer" scenario, which is done to death.

If I love this book and the characters so much, perhaps this is the book I need to work on. So I'm not adverse to revising the idea already, before it's finished. I'll do whatever it takes to make it work.

13th-Nov-2006 03:59 am - Embers progress
umbrella
Embers is coming along well. It's weird, how I'm progressing. I'm taking my time on this project, allowing things to stew. If I don't like a paragraph, I'll rewrite it several times until I'm happy with it. Yet somehow I've made the same amount of progress in terms of word count as I have with any other project.

I think Embers is better than Sherbet Skies or Possession even, though I could be delusional. It is in third person, after all, and rotates through two narrators, which is something I'm a bit new to. But I've found that I really enjoy writing from different POVs. It's fun switching, but I don't want the reader to like one narrator better than the other so that they're skipping through one POV or wishing the one character would hurry up and get on with it so they can read from the other character.

I'm so eager to see if it's working that I've considered sharing a bit of it with some readers, but I must resist the urge. I didn't let anyone read Possession until it was done and I worry that sharing Embers prematurely would slow my progress.

Anyway, progress on Embers:
